The Art of Ritual: Why We Crave Connection - With Ourselves and Others
Jul 10, 2025
In our fast-paced, modern world, it's easy to feel disconnected. We are bombarded with information digitally and in reality, pulled in multiple directions, and often find ourselves perpetually rushing from one thing to the next.
The opposite of this rush state is feeling connection. As people, we crave connection - not just with others, but with ourselves and with something larger than us. This is where the ancient and powerful concept of ritual comes into play.

Rituals are more than just habits; they are meaningful practices that bring structure, intention, and a sense of sacredness to our lives. They serve a multitude of purposes, often without us even consciously realising it:
- They create comfort and predictability: In a chaotic world, rituals offer a sense of order and familiarity, reducing anxiety and providing a grounding presence.
- They mark transitions: That might be simply the end of the work day. Or large events like birth and marriage celebrations. Rituals help us acknowledge and move through significant life events, giving them weight and importance.
- They foster connection: Many rituals are communal, bringing people together and strengthening bonds through shared experiences and traditions.
- They provide a sense of purpose: By consciously engaging in a ritual, we can infuse everyday actions with deeper meaning and intention.
- They encourage mindfulness: Rituals often require us to slow down, be present, and focus on the moment, offering a much-needed break from distractions.

Across cultures, rituals manifest in diverse and beautiful ways, often centered around shared beverages and food. These practices highlight how universal our need for connection and intentionality truly is:
- Japanese Tea Ceremony (Chanoyu): More than just drinking tea, Chanoyu is a meticulously choreographed art form embodying principles of harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. Every gesture, every utensil, and every sip is imbued with meaning, creating a profound experience of mindfulness and aesthetic appreciation. It's a true testament to slowing down and finding beauty in simplicity.
- Italian Aperitivo: This isn't just about pre-dinner drinks; it's a cherished daily ritual, particularly in the early evening. Friends and family gather to unwind, chat, and stimulate their appetites with light snacks and refreshing beverages. Aperitivo is a celebration of community, conversation, and the transition from the workday to a relaxed evening - a delicious bridge between responsibilities and leisure.

At L.A Brewery, we believe that everyday moments can be transformed into meaningful rituals. Our thoughtfully crafted drinks are designed to fit perfectly into your need for connection, mindfulness, and a touch of something special.
My personal favourite ritual is to pour a drink around 6:30pm whilst I’m making dinner. I put on a podcast, make a drink (always in a wine glass) and quietly take my time cooking, unwinding and doing a little tidying after a long day.
My two current favourite drinks are Sparkling Blush (extremely chilled down and served in a wine glass), and a non-alcoholic bitter spirit like Lyres paired with our Citrus Hops, ice and a dash of ACV.
We hope that our drinks can be a part of your rituals. They offer a moment of calm, a burst of flavour as well a healthy dose of live cultures to support your wellbeing.
So take a moment. Slow down. Savour. And discover the profound beauty in intentional living, one delicious sip at a time…..
